I shall spell it out…the special day of May 6th. First, May 6-12 is National Nurses Week.

An interesting old book “the Cyclopedia of Nursing” by R.J.E. Scott, published 1928. Great resource for nurses. Book is set up like a dictionary to look up information. My Grandmother was a nurse, my aunt was a nurse, my sister was a nurse, my daughter-in-law has almost finished training to be a nurse, my wife was an EMT, and I am accident prone, as well as a hypochondriacal web surfer.

May 6-12 is National Teachers Week. My mom was a teacher, my daughter is a teacher, my daughter-in-law was a teacher, I was even a substitute teacher. A good start for teaching is “The Art of Teaching” by Gilbert Highet, published 1950. The author states that “Teaching is an art, a daily work, and a way of life.” He then goes on a study of teacher’s traits and methods.

The book “The Teacher” by Jacob Abbott, printed 1833. This beautiful book is dedicated to the Trustees and Patrons of the Mt. Veron Female School, Boston.

Some people just don’t like teachers. For those who want to do it on their own, I have “High School Self Taught” by Lewis Copeland, published 1939. Of course this was right after the depression, and many folk did not have the opportunity to finish high school. My grandmother was one. She had a summer job, and when school started again, her mother asked if she could keep her job, and let her younger sister go back to school, because they could only afford to pay for one of them (and she needed the education more.) My grandmother did stay at her job, and her sister went to one month of school and then dropped out. My grandmother later told me the story and said “boy, was I mad.”
On May 6, 1682, Versailles was made the capital of France. Actually Paris remained, but Versailles was the de facto capital until 1789.

I have the book “Your Visit to Versailles” by Simone Hoog, 1999, because I did visit Versailles. It was a rainy day when visited, but everything was still beautiful and opulent.

I have enclosed a few pictures: the front entrance, closeup of the main fountain-Latona fountain (of the frogs), the Royal Chapel, and some downed trees at the Grand Trianon, from a tornado the week before, that took down over a thousand trees from the property.
Versailles is an amazing place to visit, but nurses and teachers are pretty amazing as well. So for May 6th, don’t forget them, and the work they do. In fact, everyone should thank nurses and teachers for helping our families and children be healthier and smarter.
Why are nurses afraid of the outdoors? Too much poison IV.
Why did the nurse need a red crayon? To draw blood.
Don’t upset Pediatric nurses. They have little patients.
How do you comfort a grammer teacher? Say, “There, they’re, their.”
Teacher said “We are having a half-day of school this morning.” “Yayyy,” replied the students. “Then we’re having the other half this afternoon…” “Awwwww.”
Teacher said “Give me a sentence beginning with “I”. Student “I is the…” Teacher “Remember to say “I am” not “I is.”” Student “OK. I am the ninth letter of the alphabet.”
Thanks for reading.
