November 6th is the day after the national election. Half of the population will be happy and the other half, not so much. I have a few tips and books to help one along-and it doesn’t matter who won or how one voted.
The first thought for some is to move from the United States…
We will start with a famous riddle about a hunter who walks one mile south, one mile east, and one mile north and ends up right back where he started. He sees a bear and shoots it. What color is the bear? The answer is white, as the hunter is at the North Pole, and the bear is a polar bear.
This week is Polar Bear Week (the first week of November). I have several books that show loving polar bears: On the Night You Were Born” by Nancy Tillman, and “I Love You With All My Heart” by Noris Kern. They both show Polar Bears happy with where they are at.

I also have a Christmas pop-up with Santa and a Polar Bear. “Oh No, Santa!” by Kees Moerbeek, 1991.

This book shows how the animals of the North Pole help Santa make the best of what he has (a spindly Christmas tree-much like Charlie Brown’s tree.) The moral here is that we too, have to make the best of what we have. We are not going to move to the North Pole, so we should try to be happy where we are at. This is still a great country.
Others do feel lost right now. October 6th is Marooned Without a Compass Day. I have an interesting book on orienteering, along with my compass, and map holder, and even my compass from Boy Scouts. This is “Be Expert with Map and Compass” by Björn Kjellström.

My brother teaches orienteering to kids over the summer. He and I both still like to use compass and maps to find our way. If the election did not go the way you wanted, you will have to find your own “compass and map”. Marooned Without a Compass Day is to help people find their bearings again.
November 6th is National Stress Awareness Day. Fittingly, I have the book “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale.

This is a great self help book. Some of the chapters in this book are: ‘How to Create Your Own Happiness’; ‘Stop Fuming and Fretting’; ‘How to Break the Worry Habit’; ‘Relax for Easy Power’; ‘Prescription for heartache’; and ‘How to Use Faith in Healing’. Norman Vincent Peale says “If you have a problem, there is a solution. If you are now in despair, there is the hope of happiness and renewed confidence in life.”
I’ll be writing tomorrow. Hope you are still reading, as well.
