September 15 “Survival of the fittest…and me”

On September 15th 1835, the HMS Beagle landed in the Galapagos islands.

My first book is “Darwin and the Beagle” by Alan Moorehead, published 1969. This is a great book, full of illustrations and paintings from Darwin’s famous, almost five year trip on the Beagle. Darwin showed great observation skills in his adventures. The book is wonderful diary in documenting Darwin’s South American travels.

My next book is “The Illustrated Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin, 1979, edited by Richard E. Leakley. Darwin’s first edition came out in 1859, and caused quite a stir. It went through six editions in three years.

September 15th is Wife Appreciation Day. Like evolution theories with Darwin, I am trying to evolve to become a better husband. It is also four days from her birthday, so I can practice on the 15th. The first thing to understand is in the book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” by John Gray, 1992. Actually, this book is an eye-opener.

I also am trying to understand her likes and dislikes. I have “Secrets of Winning Slots-How to Beat the Casino at Slots” by Avery Cardoza, 1998. She does have a passion for the “One-Armed Bandit”. Then I have “Jack Daniel’s Legacy” by Ben A. Green, 1967. Also have specialty book on specialty Jack Daniel’s “Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select” a higher octane Jack Daniel’s whisky. My wife bleeds “sour mash” whisky.

Her dislike would be the messes I have around the house, collections of piles of things I will eventually get to. So I have the book “Feng Shui-Step by Step” by T. Raphael Simons, 1996. The subtitle is “Arranging Your Home for Health and Happiness”.

This is tough. I may have to toss a large portion of my stuff out…or lock out the basement as a messy yet functionable Man Cave (and call it the library), and she can have the rest of the house. Perhaps I have found a Win/Win scenario.
