July 14 ‘fresh-air bathing…harmony in nature’

July 14th is National Nude Day. Nudism, or naturism became popular in Germany in the late 1890’s. They called it Freikörperkulture (free body culture). The Germans praised the health benefits of swimming and exercising naked in the sun. Several American health people also promoted nudism near that time, one in particular Bernarr MacFadden. I have a large collection of his books on health. Today though, I will discuss my German books on the subject of nudes and nudism.

I have the German book “Die Rassenschönheit des Weiẞes” or “the Racial Beauty of the Woman” by Dr. C.H. Stratz, published in 1904. There are studies and photographs of various cultures of women.

The book “Die Frauenkleidung” or The Woman’s Clothing” By Dr C.H. Stratz, published 1904. This book also discusses different cultures of women and their clothing, though sometimes they have forgotten to be dressed.

The book “die Anmut des Frauenleibes” or “the Grace of the Woman’s Body” by Dr. Friedrich S. Krauss, published 1904. The title about sums up this book in photographs.

“die Korperformen in Kunst und Leben der Japaner” or “the Body Shape in Art and Life of the Japanese” by C.H. Stratz, published 1904. This is an in-depth look at Japanese women.

“Harmonische Schulung des Frauenkorpers” or Harmonious Training of Woman’s Body” by Alice Bloch, published 1927. This book discusses, and shows us women exercising in the sun.

Freikörperkulture (Free body culture) jumping in the sun. If it feels good, do it. You got one picture. The rest have to be seen with a reservation at the special stacks department in the restricted books section.

Thanks for following along.
