May 9 “All children, except one”

On May 9th, 1860 J.M. Barrie was born. Barrie penned the story of a boy who lived in Neverland, and refused to grow up-Peter Pan.

I have several interesting books about Peter Pan. The first is “Peter Pan” from a set of “Giant 3-D Fairy Tale Books” These books were printed by Playmore, Inc. and each fairy tale has a hologram picture on cover. The story was then illustrated by actual puppets and little dolls for the charactors, put on a little stage. For example, the grass is actually carpeting.

The illustrations are very unusual and interesting. I have several fairy tales from this company. The books were made in Japan, and the wording could easily be changed to any language. My kids and grandkids have really enjoyed these fairy tale books.

I also have a pop-up book of Peter Pan called “Peter Pan with Three-Dimensional Pop-Up Scenes” illustrated by Nicola L. Robinson, 2013. There is a lot of the text from Barrie to give the story book feel.

The pop-ups are unusual in that they pull forward, and leave a sort of tunnel to look into.

I almost forgot (I did, and went back to edit) the book Peter Pan Pop-up book by Robert Sabuda, 2008. This book has passages from J.M. Barries book, along with some very intricate pop-ups by Robert Sabuda, a premier pop-up paper engineer.

In each of these Peter Pan books, I have an open page showing his underground tree hideout. All three books have magical and wonderful illustrations. I love them, my children love them, and my children’s children love them. While the books will never grow old…

“I suppose it’s like the ticking crocodile, isn’t it? Time is chasing after all of us.” J.M. Barrie.
