April 20 is Chinese Language Day. The day commemorates the day Gu Yu (or “Grain Rain”) that begins the season of rapid growth of grain in the spring. It also honors the Chinese ancestor, CangJie, who is credited with creating the Chinese character language on that day about 5,000 years ago.

The book I have is a Japanese book from a dear friend in Japan. It was her grandfather’s book on how to learn Chinese. It was printed in 1937, an has a fold-out map of Shanghai. It is one of several books from Japan she has given me, that I treasure.
Today April 20 is, Dude, like 420. That would be National Marijuana Day. The library abides unusual books. Have several books on books today. These are bibliographies about Marijuana:
“Comprehensive Guide to Cannabis Literature” from 1979. Information published before 1978.
“Bibliography on Herbs, Herbal Medicine, “Natural” Foods, and Unconventional Medical Treatments” 1982. Marijuana has its share of entries.

“Marihuana – an annotated bibliography” from 1976. Lists scientific publications from 1964 to 1974. (Copy from US Army Fort McCellan!).
“Marihuana – an annotated bibliography volume 2” from 1982. Publications from 1975 to 1979.
And I seem to have several actual books on Marijuana. The first is a coffee table type of book, that being a large book with very nice full page photographs. It is “Green, A Field Guide to Marijuana” by Dan Michaels, 2014. It was a gift from my brother-in-law.

I have an interesting cookbook “Aunt Sandy’s Medical Marijuana Cookbook” by Sandy Moriarty, 2010. There are several interesting recipes: Chocolate Coconut Pecan Pie, Peanut Butter Bundt Cake, Sweet and Spicy Roasted Nuts. Wow, If I can only find all of the ingredients…
I did have this episode years and years ago, before I was married. I went to Christmas Party at the parents of my girlfriend (future Mrs Will), when a friend of her brothers stopped by with Christmas present of some special brownies. I like chocolate brownies so took one. He said “be careful, these are really strong. Made them myself.”
“Nah. Give me another one. These taste great.” I replied. I ate two. A half hour later, my head began to swirl. eyes burned, and I couldn’t walk straight. I then got sleepy. I passed out, asleep on a bed, and missed the Christmas dinner. My future mother-in-law was really upset. Partly at me, but also at her son, and his ‘friend’ that poisened me.

The last Marijuana book that I have to show, is also quite interesting. “Hidden War, How Special Operations Game Wardens are Reclaiming America’s Wildlands From the Cartels”, by Lt. John Nores, Jr. 2019. This was a great read about how Marijuana growers have been taking over secluded areas of public land in California, and the dangers involved to the public.
So peace out dudes and dude-ettes. Like, I gotta do some more, more reading man. These books are so dope.
