April 18 is International Bat Appreciation Day. What better way to learn how to appreciate bats than by reading this great kids book on bats “Stellaluna” by Janell Cannon, 1993. It has a touching story, and unbelievable illustrations. A lost little bat has to work to find his mom, and to grow up. Every child (and child at heart) should experience this book.

April 18th is also International Jugglers Day. I have the perfect book, “Juggling for the Complete Klutz” by John Cassidy and B.C. Rimbeaux, 1988. This was the first Klutz book made. Several grandkids have mastered juggling because of this book. Harmonicas for the Klutz, not so much. There is a lot of in and out screeching still.

Lastly we have National Exercise Day on April 18th. I have two books. The first is “Exercise without Exercises” by S. Arthur Devan, 1944. This is a very interesting book that explains not specific exercises but his “goal of the whole is to make these (specificly explained) ways of standing, sitting, walking, and breathing, habitual-so that they become second nature to you. When that has taken place, your physical welfare is, barring accident, assured.”
I like the book., and gives thought on how one presents themself.

The next book is “New Bodie for Olds” by Dorothy Nye, 1946. This is a book “that shows women how to analyze their posture and weight defects, and refashion their bodies for poise, grace and health. It is one of several books that Funk and Wagnall published for the “Modern Woman.”
I try to keep fit, but when I’m told “exercise”, I hear “extra fries”. Thanks for reading.
