On March 31st, 1889, the Eiffel Tower was completed. 110 years later, My wife and I were able to gaze out over the “City of Light” from 906 feet up. Paris was such a complete thrill, that two years later with friends, we again made the trek.
First trip we stayed at Stella’s apt. (A flight attendant friend of a friend) on Rue Georges Bizet, several blocks from Arc de Triomphe. Second trip was at Hotel Stella, in the Latin Quarter. It was a seventeenth century building with a great location (though no elevator, TV, or air conditioning). What a great old-world charm type of place.
The first book “Above Paris” by Robert Cameron and Pierre Salinger,1985, is an amazing oversized collection of aerial photographs. These were made by helicopter, with special permission to be in Paris airspace (long before drones). The first page is a dizzying view alongside the top of the Eiffel Tower looking down.

The second book “36 Views of the Eiffel Tower” is a collection of drawings and paintings by Henri Rivière published 2010. It is a beautiful copy of original pictures first painted between 1887 and 1992. The original book was from 1902. I gave this book to my wife for our 36th anniversary, celebrating not only 36 years together, but also one of our best vacations together.

I threw in this picture of two books I have. “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” by Hokusai, 1992, and “Paris: City of Light (Thirty-six views of the Eiffel Tower)” by Henri Riviere, 1998 because of their similar numbers, and because they were both books of postcards, printed for various museums.
I have witnessed the new lighting on the Eiffel Tower, that was added for bringing in the year 2000. It was quite a sparkling sight.
Eiffel in love with this city. It is in-seine-ly beautiful…Paris-dice.
Merci d’avoir lu.
