February 9 ‘she loves me, yeah, yeah, yeah.’

We have for February 9, several National Days, and one that should be. We will begin the one that should be, February 9th, 1964-The Ed Sullivan show-73 million people saw the Beatles for their first live show in America. The rest is Beatles history. The first book on display is paperback writer John Birk, and “The Beatles in A Hard Day’s Night”, 1964. It is based on the screenplay of the movie “A Hard Day’s Night”. It also had a section of photos from the movie. The movie was nominated for two academy awards; the book sold over 1.25 million copies.

The second book is “The Beatles A to Z” by Goldie Fried, Robin Titone, and Sue Weiner. 1980. It is a clever encyclopedia of Beatles facts and pictures. It is a good Beatles trivia book, along with being an easy read.

The last book I have is simply a must have Beatles book. ”The Beatles Anthology” 2000. Ringo, Paul, and George all agreed to help with this book project, along with availability of all video media work with The Beatles Anthology. These are beautiful stories and photos, so much of it in their own words.

I have most albums in CD, (actually had 5 Beatle CDs before I bought my first CD player) and a lot of albums. Here are two color picture discs-records that are framed (I have to readjust), along with a mirror from the 1970’s that has black outline of the Beatles, taken from the Rubber Soul album.

Our wedding song was “Something” by the Beatles; and for my 60th birthday, I was given a surprise Jeep from my wife. I titled it as you see in the picture. I have just Beatles CD’s in the Jeep. Grandkids are known to sing with me. Yellow Submarine and Maxwell’s Silver Hammer are two sing-a-long favorites.

We also have National Pizza Day today. This is a food favorite. I have two books on the topic.

Both of these books are written by a local, Father Dominic Garramone, a Benedictine monk at St. Bede Abbey in Peru, Il. He grew up in Peoria, and I saw him on his PBS cooking show called “Baking Bread”. The first book “Breaking Bread with Father Dominic”, 1999, is a great book of all types of bread recipes. I have made various ones, all successfully. The second book “Thursday Night Pizza, Father Dominic’s Favorite Pizza Recipes” is from 2010. He signed it for me. You cannot go wrong with either cookbook.

Lastly, we have National Develop Alternative Vices day today. This holiday is to try to find better vices than perhaps bad ones. For example to get outdoors more, or volunteer, or develop a hobby. We are told to step out of our comfort zone. New activities can help to encourage self-improvement, along with mindfulness, and creativity.

This is “I have a book” by George and Eleanor Stewart, 1940, It is “for those who like books and appreciate their decorative use in the home, but are embarrassed by the lack of space-this book will perform some bookshelving miracles.” I love this book. THIS is my hobby-books…and where to put them. The book is dedicated to “those who have a book and want more”. The authors have written a clever yet informative book about books. While it a small volume, it gives many good ideas for any size library, ranging from 10 books, to an entire room. I am waiting for volume II, for when you have more than one room of books. Every library has room, and a need, for this book.

A good vice will insure health. Stay true to your shelf…Libraries are good for your circulation. Keep reading.
