Today is National Inspire your Heart with Art Day. Today one should promote art that moves them. It could be an artist you like, or something created yourself. I have three books by Robert Jay Wolff: “Seeing Red”, “Feeling Blue”, and “Hello Yellow!”, all published in 1968. These three books are children’s books about color. Each have simple stories, and cute illustrations to teach about their individual color, along with variants of each color. The colors are vibrant within the covers, and everything just pops.

I love these books first because each of their covers call to me. I just have to open the book. Then to see the colors so bright and full inside; with a story about how that individual color works in art. These books are for children just learning to read and comprehend the correlation of words and colors. Without explanation, the child just understands and feels what the author is doing. Wolff brings out the emotions that colors can produce. Before I even open any of these books-just holding them-I am already transported to my old public library, to the children’s table, settling into my tiny chair. Then I can read again, with the joy and enthusiasm of a seven year old.
This is reading that fills my heart.
