Today is National Hat day. I have several books on display for the occasion. The first is “How To Be a Swell Guy” by George Mikes, 1959. I like the title. It is an interesting book based on an Englishman’s views of first visit to the United States. I also like the picture of the cigar smoking bloke with a fedora.

The next book is “Etiquette Problems in Pictures”, by Lillian Eichler, 1922. She states that this book “will add to your store of social knowledge a new visual understanding of the mortifying, tell-tale mistakes we sometimes unknowingly commit.”

“The hat should always be removed when greeting a woman acquaintance.”

“Children cannot be taught too soon the values of good manners. John…makes the glaring blunder of retaining his cap.”
The last book is “The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins” by Dr Seuss, 2013. This story is about the young boy Bartholomew Cubbins who likes wearing his dad’s hat. One day when the king drives by in his carriage, Bartholomew takes off his hat but another appears on his head. The king get mad, and hauls Bartholomew to the castle. Again and again, he removes a hat, just for another to appear on his head. Finally, when…
