January 11 ‘awareness and support’

Today is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. It begins a month-long program. I have several old books on the subject. I promote them not because they are cute or exciting, but to point out that this has been an issue for quite a long time, and this is a topic that unfortunately still affects a lot of women in the the U.S. and the world.

The top two books are “Flower of Joy” 1944, and “Cities of Sin” 1943. They are written by Hendrik De Leeuw. They are about both trafficking and the narcotics trade, how they intertwine. These give lurid stories (for the time they were printed) on this crisis.

The bottom item is actual sheet music of a song “What Right Have You to Judge Her” by Chas E. Baer from 1899. It is about a man leading a girl astray. The Mother was able to rescue her daughter.

The message that the National Trafficking Hotline has for 2024 is to share information and resources to increase awareness, foster connections, and ultimately strengthen individuals, families, and communities across the United States.
